2010 International Contest on LTPP Data Analysis

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Long Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) Program and the Transportation and Development Institute, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), are cosponsoring the International Contest on LTPP Data analysis. The contest is designed to encourage university students, professors, and highway department engineers from around the world to get involved in using the LTPP database. The contest deadline is June 30, 2010. We would like for you to encourage all your colleagues and friends to participate. Please send all papers to Andrea Baker, (ASCE), abaker@asce.org

The Contest Guide in PDF format (0.13 mb) and in HTML provides information that contestants will need in order to participate. It includes the following:

  1. Background of the LTPP program.
  2. An introduction to the DataPave online web tool that contains the most recent LTPP data;
  3. Critical dates for the contest - paper submission, review period, and recognition;
  4. Guidelines for paper submission and evaluation criteria;
  5. Contest Awards and recognition for the contest winners;
  6. Expected benefits of the contest.

The contest is judged on:

  • Usefulness and potential benefit to end users
  • Originality of concept, and demonstrated use of the LTPP database
  • Organization and presentation (including clarity and style) of the paper

The contest has four distinct categories:

  • Category 1: Undergraduate Students (individual or team entry)
  • Category 2: Graduate Students (individual or team entry)
  • Category 3: Partnership
  • Category 4: Curriculum
