Identifying Existing/Emerging Technologies in the Area of Intelligent Construction

General Interest: provides practical guidance to engineers responsible for the day-to-day design, construction, rehabilitation, maintenance, and management of pavements.

Description: This report presents the findings of a comprehensive literature search that was conducted to identify existing and emerging technologies in the area of Intelligent Construction of highways including but not limited to: systems, components, processes, and software. The technologies identified herein can provide benefits such as: increased production, increased efficiency, cost savings, real-time measurements/feedback, and improved quality and uniformity. During this task, the technologies identified were grouped by technology vendor/manufacturer type using the following categories: positioning systems, software and data management, construction equipment/machine automation, quality monitoring and materials testing, and improved construction practices and materials. A summary table for each technology category is included in the appendix.
