The omnibus bill includes $46.7 million from the FHWA general operating expenses for State Border Safety Inspection Facilities at the United States/Mexican Border.
Funds are to support construction and improvement to motor carrier safety inspection facilities along the US-Mexico border.
FHWA plans to administer the program with FMCSA, like last year, as a discretionary program with funding made available to States. We plan to solicit applications in April and make awards in the summer of 2003. FHWA Division Offices will have the lead on project oversight.

$56.3 million were provided in the FY 2002 Appropriations using RABA funds.

The President's budget includes $47 million as a set aside out of the Corridors and Borders Program and the last of a 3 year DOT commitment to fund this effort.
