The Health in Transportation Working Group is a voluntary group of U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) staff that began in early 2012 to:
Working Group members have been focused on developing resources and expertise within the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the FHWA, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the Office of the Secretary of Transportation (OST) related to health, and improving leadership and communication with the agency on the relationship of transportation and health.
The Working Group considers approaches to addressing health issues and requests for information, responds to upcoming priorities and issues, and works to inform efforts by FHWA and partner organizations in addressing pressing and emerging matters relating to health in transportation.
Presently, the Group is working to draft a series of frequently asked questions (FAQs) focused on potential USDOT field staff activities and responsibilities relevant to health and transportation; developing research and tools to improve the understanding of health in transportation; and serving in a supporting capacity to several health-related initiatives underway in Working Group members' offices and agencies.
