Update Procedures for STRAHNET
As part of the FHWA's National Security Performance Goal to improve the Nation's defense mobility, the Military Traffic Management Command (MTMC), in coordination with the FHWA, maintains a web site containing information on the Strategic Highway Network (STRAHNET) and its Connectors. This web site includes STRAHNET State maps, STRAHNET Connector maps and non-interstate route descriptions for each applicable State. This web side represents the official record of the STRAHNET. Reviewers should compare state records against this website clarify or identify discrepancies. Due to security concerns as a result of recent events, this site now requires registration and approval of a password.
To access the maps for your review, complete the following:
- Type the URL, https://www.tea.army.mil/pubs_res/strahnet/strahnet.htm, and follow the instructions for registration to receive a password for site access.
- Once you have access, click on the a state to view the state's STRAHNET map.
***Please note that the non-interstate STRAHNET route descriptions are found above the legend section; click the indicated area to read them. - Please review the maps for accuracy with regard to mileage, description, location, etc.
- Discrepancies should be noted and expressed via e-mail or hard copy mail to Mark Sarmiento, 202-366-4828, (E-mail: mark.sarmiento@fhwa.dot.gov) for coordination of further inquiry with the MTMC.
- To delete or add to the STRAHNET, follow the official procedures below:
Official Guidelines for STRAHNET Request for Changes
- All requests must be initiated by the State.
- All requests must be put in writing to the FHWA Division office.
- The FHWA Division will review and summarize the request in writing. The initial
letter from the State must be included, along with any attachments (i.e., maps).

Washington, D.C. 20590 - Mark Sarmiento is the STRAHNET Coordinator and will work with the Military Traffic Management Command (MTMC) to ensure that the proposed changes are reviewed and considered. Mr. Sarmiento can be reached at (202) 366-4828.
- The MTMC will provide comments to the STRAHNET Coordinator. Those comments will be summarized, in memo form, and sent to the FHWA Division.
- The FHWA Division will inform the State, in writing, of the approved STRAHNET request.
