Figure 3: Real-Time Modeling of Transportation Impacts
This diagram shows the Picture Michigan Tomorrow process. The major steps are trends, identify drivers, new land use/cover data for Michigan, land demand modeling, land demand forecast, and impacts. There is a reiterative relationship between trends and identify drivers and linear relationship between the following steps. Subtext under each major step is as follows:
- Trends - dynamics of push and pull factors.
- Identify drivers - income, demographics, tastes, jobs, economy, population, highways, fragmentation, crime, agricultural profits, land values, taxes, housing stock, school quality, culture, amenities, ownership, open space amenities.
- New land use/cover data for Michigan - new NAIP imagery for Michigan, post imagery analysis, interpretation, new mapping capabilities.
- Land demand modeling - econometric modeling of land-use dynamics and consumption at the local level to State levels.
- Land demand forecast - residential, commercial, industrial, vacant, agriculture, mining, forestry, recreation
- Impacts - land consumption, fiscal impact, schools, jobs, infrastructure, forestry, tourism, inter-government coordination, transportation, commuting, health, natural features, economy, ecology, water quality, impervious cover, paved surface, and water demand.
