Map 1. A map showing the five alternative alignments from Natchez, Mississippi, to Montgomery, Alabama.

Alternative 1 is the all Interstate option and follows US 61 north to Mississippi state route 28 near Fayette; state route 28 east to Interstate 55; Interstate 55 north to Interstate 20 near Jackson; Interstate 20 east to the proposed terminus of Interstate 85 extension near Cuba, Alabama; Interstate 85 extension east to its intersection with interstate 65 and the proposed Montgomery Outer Loop near Montgomery, Alabama.

Alternatives 2 through 5 all would follow existing US 84 east to Brookhaven, Mississippi.

Alternative 2 would then follow Interstate 55 north to Interstate 20 near Jackson and use the same alignment as alternative 1 to Montgomery.

Alternatives 3 through 5 would continue east on US 84 to Laurel, Mississippi.

Alternative 3 would then follow Interstate 59 north to Interstate 20 near Meridian, Mississippi, and use the same alignment as alternative 1 to Montgomery.

Alternatives 4 and 5 would continue east on US 84 from Laurel to Grove Hill, Alabama.

Alternative 4 would continue on US 84 to its intersection with Interstate 65 near Evergreen, Alabama, and follow Interstate 65 north to its intersection with the proposed Montgomery Outer Loop south of Montgomery, Alabama.

Alternative 5 would construct a new highway between Grove Hill and Interstate 65 near Greenville, Alabama, and follow Interstate 65 north to its intersection with the proposed Montgomery Outer Loop.
