Comparison of Emissions by Vehicle Type, 1998 (Kilograms per Vehicle Mile)
Exhibit 19-12 has three bar graphs comparing emissions by vehicle type in 1998. In the first graph, for hydrocarbon emissions, the vertical axis measures kilograms per vehicle mile from 0 to 500,000 in increments of 100,000 kg. The horizontal axis has three bars for each vehicle type. Diesel buses emitted 172 kg of hydrocarbons per vehicle mile, diesel trucks emitted 19,258, and autos and light trucks emitted 467,288. In the second graph, for carbon monoxide emissions, the vertical axis measures kilograms per vehicle mile from 0 to 2,500,000 in increments of 500,000 kg. The horizontal axis has three bars for each vehicle type. Diesel buses emitted 879 kg of carbon monoxide per vehicle mile, diesel trucks emitted 98,552, and autos and light trucks emitted 2,391,296. And in the third graph, for nitrogen oxide emissions, the vertical axis measures kilograms per vehicle mile from 0 to 2,500,000 in increments of 500,000 kg. The horizontal axis has three bars for each vehicle type. Diesel buses emitted 945 kg of nitrogen oxide per vehicle mile, diesel trucks emitted 106,004, and autos and light trucks emitted 2,572,116.
