Highway Travel by Vehicle Type, 1993-2000
Exhibit 2-14 is a bar graph that shows highway travel by vehicle type between 1993 and 2001. The vertical axis measures vehicle miles traveled (VMT) in trillions from 0 to 3 in increments of 0.5 trillion VMT. The horizontal axis measures three types of vehicles-passenger (including buses and 2-axle and 4-axle vehicles), single unit trucks (6 tires or more), and combination trucks (trailers and semi-trailers)-for the years 1993, 1995, 1997, 1999, and 2001. In 1993, passenger vehicles had about 2.1 trillion VMT while single unit trucks had about 0.05 and combination trucks had about 0.1. In 1995, passenger vehicles had about 2.25 trillion VMT while single unit trucks had about 0.05 and combination trucks had about 0.1. In 1997, passenger vehicles had about 2.35 trillion VMT while single unit trucks had about 0.05 and combination trucks had about 0.15. In 1999, passenger vehicles had just under 2.5 trillion VMT while single unit trucks had about 0.05 and combination trucks had about 0.15. In 2001, passenger vehicles had just over 2.5 trillion VMT while single unit trucks had about 0.05 and combination trucks had about 0.15.
