2002 Conditions and Performance Report

Exhibit 26-5:

Delay and Time in Queue Per Lane for All Vehicles per 4.5 Minute Grade Crossing Closure

Exhibit 26-5

Exhibit 26-5 is a bar graph that shows delay and time in queue per lane for all vehicles per 4.5 minute grade crossing closure. The vertical axis measures hours from 0 to 7 in increments of 0.5 hours. The horizontal axis measures vehicles per highway lane per hour from 100 to 900 in increments of 100 vehicles. Delay and time in queue rises as there are more vehicles per highway lane per hour at a 4.5 minute grade crossing closure. At 100 vehicles, the delay and time in queue are both around 15 minutes. At 400 vehicles, delay and time in queue are both about 1.5 hours. At 700 vehicles, delay is about 3.1 hours and time in queue is 3.6 hours. And at 900 vehicles, delay is 5.0 hours and time in queue is 6 hours.
