/ A "Federal-aid Urbanized Area" is an area with 50,000 or more persons that at a minimum encompasses the land area delineated as the urbanized area by the Bureau of the Census. Areas are in sort by population.

/ "DVMT" stands for "Daily Vehicle-Miles of Travel".

/ Lane miles estimated by FHWA.

/ The travel data collection methodology for the Chicago urbanized area has been changed and comparisons of vehicle-miles of travel (VMT) to previous years may not be valid.

/ Some urbanized area data are inconsistently reported; for example, the Pennsylvania portion of Wilmington, Delaware is reported with Philadelphia; portions of Bristol, Connecticut are reported with Hartford or Waterbury; Kissimmee, Florida is reported with Orlando; and the Illinois portions of Aurora, Danville, Elgin, Crystal Lake, Joliet and Round Lake Beach are reported with Chicago. Other anomalies may exist.
