Federal Lands Highway Program Administrator

A report entitled "Current Applications and Successful Implementation of Local Agency Pavement Management in the United States" is attached for distribution to the States in your region. The report was prepared by Mr. Paul Sachs of the Washington Department of Transportation, and it is a documentation of his one year Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPA) assignment in the Pavement Division. During his assignment, Mr. Sachs visited local highway agencies, Metropolitan Planning Organizations and the Technology Transfer Centers to discuss how they are implementing pavement management systems. This report was the basis for his presentation on pavement management and local agencies, at the National Workshop on Pavement Management in New Orleans, in July of this year.

One copy has been included for your office, each Division and state in your Region. If you need additional copies of the report, please call Ms. Sonya Hill on my staff at (202) 366-1337 or the FHWA reports center (301) 577-0818.
