This is a followup to my September 3, 2008, memorandum requesting Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) field interest and participation in regional bridge preservation partnerships. These partnerships will function under the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Transportation System Preservation Technical Services Program ((TSP·2). In October 2008, AASHTO's Board of Directors approved the addition of a bridge preservation technical services program, including regional bridge preservation partnerships, to their current TSP·2 program. The AASHTO recently began soliciting each of the State departments of transportation for their participation in funding for this new technical services program (see attached copies of AASHTO actions.).

Based on responses received from the September 3rd request, we have identified FHWA liaisons for each of the regional bridge preservation partnerships. The attached list outlines each of the partnerships and the corresponding FHWA liaison. The duties and responsibilities of the liaisons will undoubtedly vary from partnership to partnership, but we would anticipate the liaisons will serve a 3-year team with approximately 1-2 weeks of involvement per year.

The Office of Asset Management is currently working with AASHTO and each of the regional partnerships to facilitate their continued development and growth. Several of the partnerships have already met at least once and are currently planning future meetings. The Office of Asset Management will coordinate with the liaisons on the preparation of these meetings and any other future activities of the partnerships as they are developed. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Ken Jacoby at (202) 366-6503.
