FHWA to Hold Public Meeting Beginning Environmental Assessment For Improving Access to Kennedy Center

The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) will begin the next phase of proposed transportation access improvements to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts with a public information meeting on April 3, 2002. This will be the first in a series of public information meetings at the Kennedy Center.

FHWA officials, along with representatives from the Kennedy Center, District of Columbia Division of Transportation, National Park Service, National Capital Planning Commission and the Commission of Fine Arts, will be on hand in the Grand Foyer of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to answer questions about the proposed project.

The project is intended to improve motor vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle access, address traffic safety concerns and improve the Kennedy Center's connection with the city.

"The John F. Kennedy Center is the national cultural center," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta. "As good neighbors, we are pleased to work with the community in developing plans to reconnect the people with this living memorial."

The public is encouraged to attend this informal meeting to learn about the project, ask questions and provide comments and suggestions. It will be held from 6-9:30 p.m. in the Grand Foyer of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, 2700 F Street, N.W. Washington, DC.
