Federal Highway Administration Statement on Central Artery/Tunnel Leak Assessment Report

The interim report on leaks in the Central Artery/Tunnel released today by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) concludes that the project is structurally sound and remains safe for traffic but recommends that work continue with inspections and repairs to put a stop to any and all leaks as soon as possible. The interim report further recommends project authorities develop an inspection program to detect and deter any future leak problems.

FHWA will continue to closely monitor the project to ensure that it remains safe and open to traffic and that the taxpayers' investment is protected. A follow-up report will be issued later this year after all inspections and repairs are completed.

The report is available on FHWA's Web site at https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/reports/centralarterytunnel.
