Federal Highway Administration Ranked Among U.S. Government’s ‘Best Places to Work’ for Fourth Straight Year

FHWA One Of Federal Government’s Top Five Percent

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) was named one of the best places to work in the federal government Tuesday by the Partnership for Public Service.

“Exceptional public service is on display every day at the U.S. Department of Transportation, and this survey reaffirms that,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx. “The men and women of the FHWA have earned this important recognition through their professionalism, innovation and persistence. They work hard every day to provide better and safer roads and bridges for their fellow Americans.”

The new rankings make it the fourth consecutive year the agency has been listed in the top five percent. For the first time, among all federal agencies, those who identified themselves as Hispanic or Latino consider the FHWA the best place to work. Federal employees were surveyed about their respective workplaces between April and June 2015.

“All our employees know firsthand that the work we do has a real impact on people’s daily lives,” said Federal Highway Administrator Gregory Nadeau. “Keeping the public safe is our top priority, and that simple goal is what makes working at FHWA so worthwhile. The enthusiasm of our employees makes the agency an ideal workplace.”

Published in the Partnership for Public Service’s 2015 “Best Places to Work Index,” the rankings are based on the Office of Personnel Management’s Best Places to Work in the Federal Government Survey, which analyzes data collected from more than 430,000 federal workers to produce a detailed view of employee satisfaction and commitment.

Agency subcomponents are not only measured on overall employee satisfaction but are scored in 13 workplace categories, such as effective leadership, training, employee skills/mission match, support for diversity and pay. The FHWA is ranked in the top tier of every category, and improved its scores in teamwork and work/life balance.
