Highway Technology CalendarThe following events provide opportunities to learn more about products and technologies for accelerating infrastructure innovations. The Fifth International Conference on Bridge Maintenance, Safety, and Management Organized by the International Association for Bridge Maintenance and Safety, the conference will cover such topics as measurement and monitoring, fatigue analysis, repair and strengthening, bridge testing and assessment, advanced materials technology, and innovative construction technology. Sponsors include the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the Transportation Research Board (TRB), Pennsylvania Infrastructure Technology Alliance, American Concrete Institute, and Lehigh University. Contact: Ian Friedland at FHWA, 202-493-3023 (email: ian.friedland@fhwa.dot.gov), or visit www.iabmas2010.org. 2010 Petersen Asphalt Research Conference and Pavement Performance Prediction Symposium The conference will present current research aimed at understanding and improving asphalt pavement performance. Each session includes open mic discussion time for participants. The 2.5-day conference is followed by a 1-day symposium sponsored by FHWA that focuses on key aspects of pavement performance. Participants may register for both events or either one separately. The conference and symposium are organized by the Western Research Institute (WRI). Contact: Steve Salmans at WRI, 307-721-2306 (email: ssalmans@uwyo.edu); or Jack Youtcheff at FHWA, 202-493-3090 (email: jack.youtcheff@fhwa.dot.gov). Information is also available at www.petersenasphaltconference.org. The Eleventh International Conference on Asphalt Pavements Hosted by the International Society for Asphalt Pavements and the Japan Road Association, the conference will focus on new asphalt pavement technologies, particularly those that address environmental issues and enhance road safety. Contact: Lee Gallivan at FHWA, 317-226-7493 (email: victor.gallivan@fhwa.dot.gov) or visit isap-nagoya2010.jp/about.html. 2010 National Hydraulic Engineering Conference August 31–September 3, 2010, Park City, UT Hydraulic engineers from around the country will gather to discuss today's challenges, innovations, and best practices. Topics will include bridge scour, fish passage, stream restoration, water quality, and climate change. The conference is sponsored by AASHTO, FHWA, and the Utah Department of Transportation. Contact: Cynthia Nurmi at FHWA, 404-562-3908 (email: cynthia.nurmi@fhwa.dot.gov), or visit www.udot.utah.gov/nhec. International Conference on Sustainable Concrete Pavements: Practices, Challenges, and Directions September 15–17, 2010, Sacramento, CA The conference will present innovative processes for achieving sustainable concrete pavements throughout the pavement's life cycle. Topics will include existing technologies, emerging research, approaches to measuring energy and environmental impact, user considerations, and international practices and experiences. Case studies from around the world will also be presented. FHWA and the National Concrete Pavement Technology Center have organized the conference as part of the technology transfer efforts of FHWA's Advanced Concrete Pavement Technology Products Program. Information is also available at www.fhwa.dot.gov/pavement/concrete/2010acptpconf.cfm. Pavement Evaluation 2010 October 25–27, 2010, Roanoke, VA The conference will combine the annual Road Profilers Users Group Meeting with discussions and presentations on other aspects of nondestructive pavement evaluation. In addition to profiling, topics will include texture and friction measurement, tire-pavement noise, ground penetrating radar, video distress rating, and structural testing. Following the meeting, an equipment comparison rodeo will be held at the Virginia Smart Road in Blacksburg, Virginia.
