Course Description: FAR is designed as a 3-day course for financial institution examiners, with instructional modules for real estate appraisal fundamentals, appraisal review techniques, regulatory compliance with FIRREA, special appraisal issues, and chattel appraisal review. The course relates to the principles of preparing the data collection and analysis necessary to render a value opinion; it also relates to the issues and principles involved in examining the overall appraisal process and individual appraisal reports. Although the course will provide participants with a basic understanding of appraisal principles, it is not intended as an appraisal-training seminar. The overall purpose is to increase an examiner's proficiency in the identification of inadequate appraisal processes and incomplete or inaccurate appraisals.
