Project detail
Project Description:   This study will identify, document, and develop guidance materials on the state-of-the-practice and the state-of-the-art in utilizing the range of data available from traffic analysis tools in a manner that operating agencies, decision makers, or seasoned professionals would not have otherwise gained through a raw interpretation of individual performance measures.
Goals:   The goal is to identify, document, and develop guidance materials on the state-of-the-practice and the state-of-the-art in utilizing traffic analysis tools.
Background Information:   The Federal Highway Administration, in support of the Traffic Analysis and Simulation Pooled Fund Study, has identified a need to create guidance on the selection and use of traffic analysis tools and other methods in a manner that promotes consistency.
Product Type:   Research report
Test Methodology:   Development of this guidebook included a preliminary literature review to assess the quality of the guidance currently available on the use of traffic analysis tools to achieve consistent analytical results. An expert panel was recruited to review interim results and provide guidance on the technical direction of the effort. A questionnaire was distributed and a series of interviews conducted that culminated in a report on the current state of the practice. Feedback to that report, additional interviews, and literature review were conducted to support identification of key consistency issues and to support the development of this document.
Partners:   Federal Highway Administration: Resource Center; Role(s): Advisory
Expected Benefits:   Better and more consistent use of Traffic Analysis Tools.
Deliverables: Name: Final Report — A Guide to the Consistent Application of Traffic Analysis Tools and Methods.
