Roadmap/Focus area(s): Infrastructure Research and Technology Strategic Plan and Roadmap
Project Description:A research program will be conducted to obtain a preliminary estimate of a chloride threshold value for corrosion initiation for prestressing strands.
Laboratories: Coatings and Corrosion Laboratory
Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Laboratory
Start Date: February 1, 2012
End Date: February 1, 2015
Goals: The key project objective is to conduct research on prestressing strands grouted with samples of cement grout containing different levels of chloride to obtain a preliminary estimate of a chloride threshold value for corrosion initiation.
Test Methodology: Lab and field tests.
Expected Benefits:The expected benefit is the improvement of the knowledgebase pertaining to threshold values of chloride in grout for prestressing strands.
