Project Description:	These projects will use standard and nonstandard specialized laboratory testing equipment to characterize aggregates used for road and bridge construction. The results of this research will provide new aggregate characterization methods that will benefit geotechnical and pavement engineers who incorporate these materials into their designs.

Goals:	To evaluate the effect of various parameters on the measured strength of aggregates. First, comparisons between results from triaxial and direct shear testing will be performed for open and well graded aggregates. Additionally, scale effects will be evaluated for these aggregates.
