Unique Opportunity:
This workshop will bring together over 350 forward-thinking transportation, environmental and planning professionals for a frank, open discussion aimed at exposing the realities, sharing experiences, and
developing common sense approaches to addressing some of the major complex problems of our time.
Numerous TRB committees, members of private industry, the AASHTO Standing Committee on the Environment, and the Center for Transportation and the Environment are participating. This promises to be a very engaging and enlightening event.
Interactive Approach:
This event is being designed to be highly interactive so transportation, environmental and planning professionals can engage in constructive dialogue on pressing issues.
" Plenary Sessions: Will develop the common bonds between various committees and organizations by exposing important cross-cutting issues.
" Concurrent Sessions: Digging deeper into specialized subjects concurrent sessions will present information in a panel setting then challenge participants to share experiences, raise concerns, and share solutions on important topics.
" Town Hall Style: Providing all participants a chance to say what is on their minds in a constructive, solution-oriented atmosphere.
Relevant Topics:
The workshop is divided into four tracksPlanning, Process, Application/Delivery and Data/Information
Management. Here are just a few of the subjects we will address:
Influence of Land Use, Define Sustainability, Climate Change, Advancing Alternative Fuels, Benefits of Public Involvement, Advantages of Alternate Modes, New Frontiers in Cultural Resources, Upcoming Streamlining Initiatives, Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001), New Technologies in CSS, Public-Private Funding, Historic Bridge Preservation, New Perspectives on Environmental Impacts, and the Access, Sharing, and Quality of Data.
Participating Agencies:
Numerous entities are helping with the planning and preparation of the workshop. These entities include
representatives from most of the eight committees in the TRB Environment and Energy Section; the TRB Committees on Public Involvement, Urban Freight, and Transportation and Aviation; Department of Defense; Federal Transit Administration; the Center for Transportation; the Environment; and AASHTO Standing Committee on the Environment; and others.
