Asphalt Specification, Design, Production, and Laydown Workshop
Participants receive an overview of mix design; plant operation and inspection; & laydown operations and compaction. Module 1: Inspectors guide to asphalt mix design - This session will include the basics of asphalt mixture design including: Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA); Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP); Recycled Asphalt Shingles (RAS); and Ground Tire Rubber (GTR). Module 2: From the Plant through the Paver - This session will include a basic overview of asphalt plant production, haul, laydown, including: batch/drum plants, aggregate stockpiles and bins, bag house operation, truck loading, tack coat application and trouble shooting, paver operation, MTV, sampling, lay-down, and compaction temperatures. Module 3: Compaction, Compaction, Compaction - This section will cover the basics of compaction and the specifics of compaction of the longitudinal joint. Module 4: What to look for on the roadway? This session will cover common construction issues: truck load segregation, paver segregation, auger shadows, mat tearing, and tender mixes.
