Courses, Seminars, and Workshops offered by Resource Center specialists

CONSTRUCTION OF PAVEMENT SUBSURFACE DRAINAGE SYSTEMS COURSE
Return to top of page
Length: 1 day
The workshop addresses the basic theory and practice applications for the construction and maintenance of subsurface pavement drainage systems. The concepts of permeable bases, separator layer, longitudinal edge-drains and outlets are covered by this workshop.
To schedule, phone:

  • Atlanta: Angel L. Correa, RC Atlanta Pavement Design Engineer, (404)-562-3907

HIPERPAV Workshop
Return to top of page
Course Length: 1 day
This workshop addresses the basic theory and concepts of concrete pavement early age behavior and its relation to long-term performance. The concept of stress and strength development of concrete due to environmental and construction factors is analyzed using the HIPERPAV computer model software. Participants of the workshop will become familiar with using the software to improve the longevity and performance of concrete pavements.
To schedule, phone:

  • Atlanta: Angel L. Correa, RC Atlanta Pavement Design Engineer at 404-562-3907

ADVANCED LIFE-CYCLE COST ANALYSIS IN PAVEMENT DESIGN
Return to top of page
Course Length: 1/2 Day
Description: This training course includesan overview of the FHWAs Life-Cycle Cost Analysis methodology including the determination of Agency and user costs, probabilistic analysis, and provides an in-depth review and hands on training in the use of new FHWA LCCA software.
To schedule, phone:

  • Michael Smith, Materials Engineer, (404) 562-3694
  • Keith Herbold, Pavement Design Engineer, (708) 283-3548
  • Bernie Kuta, Pavement and Materials Engineer, (303) 716-2196

LIFE-CYCLE COST ANALYSIS IN PAVEMENT DESIGN
Return to top of page
Course Length: 1.5 days
Description: This free training course provides basic instruction in the FHWA Life-cycle cost analysis methodology including the determination of agency and user costs and an introduction to the probabilistic approach.
To schedule, phone:

  • Michael Smith, Materials Engineer, (404) 562-3694
  • Keith Herbold, Pavement Design Engineer, (708) 283-3548
  • Bernie Kuta, Pavement and Materials Engineer, (303) 716-2196

DP-115 is designed for individuals with responsibility for conducting, evaluating and using pavement design LCCA results. This includes State pavement design engineers, pavement management engineers, as well as district or area supervisors with responsibility for selecting pavement type and rehabilitation strategies. The understanding the material covered in this workshop will become a prerequisite for the Advanced Workshop in the use of the FHWA Probabilistic LCCA model now under development.
To schedule, phone:

  • Keith Herbold, Pavement Design Engineer, (708) 283-3548

PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE/PAVEMENT PRESERVATION: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Return to top of page
Course Length: 45 minutes
An executive summary, geared toward mid- to upper-level managers in Transportation Agencies who are thinking about implementing a PPM program, which provides an introduction to preventive maintenance programs and how they contribute to pavement preservation. The summary makes the case for the use of preventive maintenance in an overall pavement preservation program.
To schedule, phone:

  • Baltimore: Joseph Huerta, Pavement Management Engineer, (410) 962-2298
