Economic Fabrication Next SCEF Meetings
November 1 - 2, 2001
Manassas, Virginia
Attached are copies of the agendas for the subject meetings, which are to be
held on November 1 - 2, 2001 at the Holiday Inn in Manassas, Virginia.
The hotel is located at the intersection of I-66 and State Route 234.
A block of rooms has been reserved at the hotel for the single room rate of $64
per night plus 9.5% tax. This rate will be honored until October 17,
2001. Attendees are requested to make their own reservations by
calling the hotel at 703-335-0000. Please note that a tour of the Williams
Bridge Companys steel fabrication plant is planned for the group on the
afternoon of November 1st.
In continuing SCEFs alignment with the AASHTO/National Steel Bridge
Collaboration (NSBA), attendees to each meeting are asked to be prepared to
discuss their States or companys comments on the four AASHTO/NSBA documents
listed in the agenda. Copies of these standards are available on the
Collaboration website at http://wwwcf.fhwa.dot.gov/exit.cfm?link=http://www.steelbridge.org/coldoc.htm.
These four standards have been presented to the AASHTO T-14 Technical
Committee for Steel Design. Comments from that group will be addressed at
the fall meeting of the Collaboration, and the resolution of those comments sent
to AASHTO. Balloting for adoption is anticipated at the full Subcommittee
meeting in May 2002.
We would also like to receive an update from each State on specific project
implementation of the AASHTO-approved document on Shop Drawing Review and
Approval.
Attendees to the Structural Coatings Subcommittee meeting on November
2nd are requested to review the existing SCEF specification for
Inorganic Zinc-rich paint, in order to be prepared to discuss whether it should
be superseded by the proposed Collaboration document. That document may
also be found at the above website.
This notice will be posted on the Resource Centers website,
located at All SCEF members with an Internet address will receive these
materials electronically. Hard copies will not be mailed to these
individuals. Those members without an Internet address who have an **
next to their name will receive a fax of the materials, and are requested to
make the information available as soon as possible to other non-Internet members
on the SCEF list.
If there are any problems with receiving the documents either electronically
or by fax, please notify Ms. Marsha Simmons at (410) 962-2773.
Members are requested to review the Subcommittee listings and consider
representation by their state or company as appropriate.
An overhead projector, slide projector and flip chart can be made
available if needed by the presenters. Speakers anticipating making an
electronic presentation are requested to supply their own laptop equipment, and
to provide us with a CD of their presentation, while all speakers are asked to
provide paper copies of their talks. All speakers are asked to notify
us as soon as possible of their equipment needs.
We look forward to another successful turnout and to the active participation
of all attendees at both meetings.
