High Steel Request for CNC Drilling
Acceptance
Dear Mr. Kinsman:
The Department has reviewed the March 1, 2001 letter from High Steel
Structures, Inc. requesting that CNC and template drilling of frill size field
splice holes be accepted
The CNC drilling procedure is accepted at the
5-21941, S-22002 and S-21677 structures under the following conditions:
1) Klan A. Myers, Inc. and High Steel Structures, Inc. accepts responsibility
for any problems and cost that might occur from using this procedure and the
conditions set by the Department to ensure proper fit-up and quality of the
product.
2) No additional holes will be allowed in the flange or web.
Misdrilled holes will result in the girder being rejected.
3) No tack
welds will be allowed unless they will be consumed by the final weld.

4) In accordance with 1105.03(g)1, use the Progressive Girder Assembly to
ensure fit-up of structure.
5) No time extension will be granted as a result of this procedure and
progressive girder assembly fit-up requirements.
6) Any additional cost resulting from a failure to meet erection schedules
will be the responsibility of Allan A. Myers, Inc. and High Steel Structures,
Inc. and not the Department.
