Next SCEF
Meetings
October 24-25, 2000, Dover,
Delaware
Attached is a set of directions and map
to the college and hotel accommodations for your use. Phone number
for the Comfort Suites is 302-736-1204; government rate of $74.50, tax
included, is also available there. Attendees are encouraged to make
their own reservations as soon as possible.
In continuing SCEFs alignment with the Steel
Bridge Collaboration, attendees to the full committee meeting on October 25th
are asked to be prepared to discuss their States views on the recently balloted
document on fabrication. We would also like to receive an update from each
State on specific project implementation of the recently balloted document on
Shop Drawing Review and Approval.
We will
set aside time for any interested State (or their design consultant) to
make a presentation on steel design details being proposed for a major
project. The purpose would be to gain feedback from other State
and Industry attendees on the fatigue resistance and economy of the details.
Please advise prior to the meeting of this particular interest.
Continuing the practice initiated last year, the
Delaware Department of Transportation has volunteered to take notes at the full
committee meeting, and to distribute the information afterwards with
attachments. We appreciate very much their willingness to share this new
responsibility.
All SCEF members with an Internet address will
be notified that they may access the materials there. Hard copies
will not be mailed to these individuals. Those members without an
Internet address who have an * next to their name will receive a fax of
the materials, and are requested to make the information available as
soon as possible to other non-Internet members on the SCEF list.
If there are any problems with receiving the
documents either electronically or by fax, please notify Ms. Marsha Simmons at (410)
962-2773
Members are requested to review the Subcommittee
listings and consider representation by their state or company as
appropriate.
Following is a supplement to the referenced agenda
items:
4. Status of High Performance Steel
Projects
According to our records, NY, NC, and
WV have projects approved under the 1998-2000 FHWA Innovative Bridge Research
& Construction Program. We would appreciate attendees from these
States providing an update on their projects, as well as those States who
submitted candidates for the 2001 program, and from those states with HPS
projects not funded under this program.
5a. Regional Welder Certification Program
It is requested that each State
designate an attendee to vote on the referenced program which has been
distributed and discussed by the MDSHA at several previous
meetings.
9. LRFD
Implementation/Changes to Steel Bid Prices
Each state attendee is requested to be
prepared to discuss their implementation status, and any trends in bid prices
that may be attributable to LRFD.
We wish to announce that Mr. Paul Perkins, chairman of the
Subcommittee on Structural Coatings, has retired from the Maryland State Highway
Administration. A volunteer is now being solicited from that group to
coordinate its activities. Anyone interested in assuming that role is
asked to notify us prior to the 24th. The first order of business at the
meeting will be to announce the new chairman. Attendees to that
meeting are asked to be prepared to discuss each agenda item as it pertains to
their state or company.
An overhead projector, slide projector and flip
chart will be available for anyone anticipating their need. Power Point
equipment will also be available, however, speakers are asked to bring their own
laptop computer, and a CD of their talk. All speakers are asked to provide
paper copies as well.
We look forward to another successful turnout and
to the active participation of all attendees at both meetings.
