440.2R-08: Guide for the Design and Construction of Externally Bonded FRP Systems for Strengthening Concrete Structures

Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) systems for strengthening concrete structures are an alternative to traditional strengthening techniques, such as steel plate bonding, section enlargement, and external post-tensioning. FRP strengthening systems use FRP composite materials as supplemental externally bonded reinforcement. FRP systems offer advantages over traditional strengthening techniques: they are lightweight, relatively easy to install, and are noncorrosive. Due to the characteristics of FRP materials as well as the behavior of members strengthened with FRP specific guidance on the use of these systems is needed. This document offers general information on the history and use of FRP strengthening systems; a description of the unique material properties of FRP; and committee recommendations on the engineering, construction, and inspection of FRP systems used to strengthen concrete structures. The proposed guidelines are based on the knowledge gained from experimental research, analytical work, and field applications of FRP systems used to strengthen concrete structures. Available in hard copy or PDF format.

To learn more or to order this document, go to 440.2R-08: Guide for the Design and Construction of Externally Bonded FRP Systems for Strengthening Concrete Structures. $83.50 (ACI members $51.00); Order Code 440208.EM.

440.5-08: Specification for Construction with Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) Reinforcing Bars

This Reference Specification covers construction using fiber-reinforced polymer reinforcing bars that the Architect/Engineer can make applicable to any construction project by citing it in the Project Specifications. The Architect/Engineer supplements the provisions of this Reference Specification as needed by designating or specifying individual project requirements. Standard units available in hard copy or PDF format and metric version available in PDF format (metric version order code 4405M08).

To learn more or to order this document, go to 440.5R-08: Specification for Construction with Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) Reinforcing Bars. $28.50 (ACI members $18.00); Order Code 440508.EM.

440.6-08: Specification for Carbon and Glass Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) Bar Materials for Concrete Reinforcement

This Material Specification covers provisions governing testing, evaluation, and acceptance of carbon and glass fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) bars used as reinforcement for concrete. Standard units available in hard copy or PDF format and metric version available in PDF format (metric version order code 4406M08).

To learn more or to order this document, go to 440.6-08: Specification for Carbon and Glass-Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) Bar Materials for Concrete Reinforcement. $30.50 (ACI members $19.00); Order Code 440608.EM.
