Shahram Pezeshk

Dr. Pezeshk attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, receiving his B.S. in Civil Engineering with high honors in 1982. He attended graduate school at the University of California at Berkeley where he received a Myrtle L. Judkins Memorial Fellowship, with studies emphasizing structural engineering and structural mechanics. He received his M.S. in Civil Engineering in 1983. He received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering in 1989 from the University of Illinois.

Dr. Pezeshk worked as a Bridge Engineer for Hanson Engineers Inc. for year and half before joining the faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Memphis in 1989 as an Assistant Professor. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1994. He has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in engineering analysis, structural dynamics, earthquake engineering, structural system design, reinforced concrete design, prestressed concrete design, and statics. Dr. Pezeshk has advised three Ph.D. and ten M.S. students to completion. He is currently major professor for three Ph.D. students and four M.S. students, with one Ph.D. and three M.S. candidates less than one semester away from completion.

During the past ten years Dr. Pezeshk has published numerous papers and reports and have delivered several invited lectures. He has been the principal or co-principal investigator on several research projects with grants totaling over $1.7 million from funding agencies such as the United State Geological Survey, the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration, and the National Science Foundation. In 1993 He received a Superior Performance in University Research (SPUR) award; and was one of two recipients of the 1998 Distinguished Research Award.

Dr. Pezeshk is a registered professional engineer in the State of Tennessee and an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI). In 1998 he was one the recipients of the 1998 State-of-the-Art of Civil Engineering Award American Society of Civil Engineers. He is currently the president of the EERI New Madrid regional chapter which covers seven states. He is a member of the following honor societies: Tau Beta Pi, Chi Epsilon, and Phi Eta Sigma.
