Harry Cooke is currently completing a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA. Mr. Cooke received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, in 1981 and a M.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas, Austin, TX, in 1983. He worked for eight years as a geotechnical engineering consultant with McClelland Engineers, Houston, TX, and GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc., Newton Upper Falls, MA, and served two years with the Peace Corps in Uganda, East Africa, in the technical education area. He was awarded the 1997-98 EERI/FEMA Graduate Fellowship in Earthquake Hazard Reduction. The focus of Mr. Cooke's doctoral research and conference presentation is the use and design of ground and foundation improvement measures for liquefaction mitigation at existing bridges.
