EDWARD KAVAZANJIAN, JR.

Edward Kavazanjian, Jr., Ph.D., P.E., is a principal with GeoSyntec Consultants. Dr. Kavazanjian is the lead author of Federal Highway Administration Geotechnical Engineering Circular Number 3, Design Guidance: Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering for Highways. Dr. Kavazanjian was also a co-author of the RCRA Subtitle D (258) Seismic Design Guidance for Municipal Solid Waste Landfill Facilities for the Environmental Protection Agency. His major project experience includes investigation, design, and construction management services for highway and mass transit systems, port and harbor structures, water resources development, solid waste landfill facilities, and commercial and industrial facilities. He has served as principal and co-principal investigator on geotechnical engineering research projects sponsored by the Department of Transportation, the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Geological Survey, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He is past chairman of the ASCE Geotechnical Division Safety and Reliability Committee and currently serves on the ASCE Geo Institute Embankments, Dams, and Slopes Committee and the Seismic Risk and Transportation Committees of the ASCE Technical Council on Lifeline Earthquake Engineering.
