City of New Haven, Connecticut, Trolley Cars
New Haven, Connecticut

Abstract

The City of Stamford (population 109,997), working with the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities, proposes to undertake a two-part statewide survey of viewpoints related to the use of mass transportation systems in Connecticut, a densely-populated state with comparatively low usage of mass transportation and increasing development in previously rural areas. Part one of the survey would ascertain the views of municipal officials, officials of regional and metropolitan planning organizations and business and labor leaders in each of the state's fifteen regional planning districts on the factors that facilitate or impede public use of existing mass transportation options, and the likely support for new and improved mass transportation systems and related land use planning. Part two of the survey would ascertain public views of these same issues.

The results of these surveys would be used to identify the issues on which federal, state, regional, and local leaders should concentrate in making policy and funding decisions regarding mass transportation and related land use in Connecticut.
