Downtown Albuquerque Transportation Management Program
Albuquerque, New Mexico

Abstract

This project is part of a comprehensive revitalization program for downtown Albuquerque. It implements key aspects of the transportation strategy for the downtown area, effecting a concentrated population of 53% non-white, of which 18.8% of the residents earnings are equal to or below the poverty line. The proposed project will include:

  1. the development of a pedestrian access plan
  2. evaluating the effects of converting a one-way street couplet to a two-way street network and implementing a downtown shuttle
  3. development of a comprehensive street and pedestrian signage and amenities program
  4. development and construction of a comprehensive transportation management plan and
  5. evaluation of the project.

Results of the project will improve community livability, make more efficient use of transportation capacity, promote alternate transportation modes, and encourage private sector investment in the downtown district.
