    This report features the latest data from four safety measures and highlights on-going efforts to minimize the number of deaths, injuries and crashes on Wisconsin roadways. One of the four measures, seat belt use, is measured annually during our Click It or Ticket campaign. Wearing seat belts saves lives. Buckling a seat belt every time, on every trip, decreases the risk of being ejected or thrown about the vehicle in the event of a crash.

    Transportation planners can reduce crashes by incorporating safety from the beginning. The rationale for linking safety and planning is that substantial crash reductions may be achieved by considering safety explicitly within the planning process.

  • Minnesota Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP)

    The 2014-2019 Strategic Highway Safety Plan coordinates with 15 existing transportation plans and includes input from multimodal transportation organizations, the Minnesota Safety Council, the Minnesota Department of Transportation Freight and Commercial Vehicle Operations Office and Passenger Rail Office.

    The Performance-Based Planning focus area page is a one-stop shop for resources about performance-based planning and performance measures on the TPCB website. It includes links to publications, legislation and guidance, recent peer events, upcoming calendar events, and related websites.

  • Minnesota State Highway Investment Plan: 2014-2033
    MnDOT - 06/10/2015
    Performance-based planning: MnDOT used performance measures, targets, and trends to identify its future investment needs on the state highway system and examine its ability to meet its performance goals. The 20-Year Minnesota State Highway Investment Plan 2014-2033 supports the guiding principles from the Minnesota GO vision and link the policies and strategies laid out in the Statewide Multimodal Transportation Plan to improvements on the state highway system.

This guide includes environmental review considerations and case studies that cover a variety of planning scenarios and potential challenges.

  • New Web Resource Helps States and MPOs Improve Collaborative Transportation Decision Making

    Developed as part of the second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP2), PlanWorks is a web resource that supports collaborative decision making in transportation planning and project development.

    The Department Scorecard summarizes the 2011 Actual, 2012 Expected, 2015 Projection and Goal, and 2017 Projection and Goal data for each of the thirty performance summaries. Each performance measure is linked to a performance summary which provides additional information for that measure.

The Conference will include meetings of AASHTO's Standing Committee on Environment, Subcommittee on Highway Transport, Standing Committee on Public Transportation, and Standing Committee on Planning. FHWA's Environmental Excellence Awards will be presented.

  • AASHTO SCOM MAINTENANCE CONFERENCE

    14th AASHTO/TRB Conference on Transportation Infrastructure will take place on July 19-23, 2015 in Des Moines, Iowa. The conference will explore the state-of-the-art, state-of-the-practice, and practical innovations in infrastructure, maintenance operations, and management. The American Association of State Highways and Transportation Officials (AASHTO); Subcommittee on Maintenance (SCOM), and the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Maintenance and Preservation Committees organize and conduct conferences every year to provide information on the state-of-the-art and state-of-the-practice in maintenance operations and management to professionals responsible for maintaining and preserving highways.   • TRB Webinar: Using Winter Severity Indices for Winter Maintenance Performance Management

    TRB will conduct a webinar on July 29, 2015, from 2:00pm to 3:30pm ET that will share experiences from transportation agencies that have successfully developed a methodology for Winter Severity Indices (WSI) and have used it to measure and report performance. Three speakers —two from two state departments of transportation and a representative from Canada—will present their respective agency's approach.

  • Driver Alcohol Detection System for Safety (DADSS)

    From its inception, the DADSS program has been, and continues to be, working toward a voluntary, non-regulatory countermeasure to reduce drunk driving. The purpose is to explore the feasibility, the potential benefits of, and the potential challenges associated with a more widespread use of in-vehicle technology to prevent alcohol-impaired driving.
