• Connecticut Transportation Ramp-up Dashboard

  Transportation Ramp-Up Program is the first step in a transformative strategy towards re-investing in Connecticut's infrastructure and economic future. Under the Ramp-Up program, funding was authorized by the Connecticut General Assembly to get started on a mix of multi-corridor, multi-modal transportation initiatives. There are 34 major initiatives in total, all of which are being administered by the Connecticut Department of Transportation. Transportation Ramp-Up Dashboard is the "Go To" site for basic information about the initiatives, including financial statistics, project descriptions, timeframes, and current statuses.

• Michigan DOT Reduces Crashes by 47 Percent by Implementing a Centerline Rumble Strip Initiative
  RSPCB, FHWA - 04/14/2016
  MDOT began a three-year statewide initiative in 2008 to install milled centerline rumble strips on all rural non-freeway highways with a posted speed limit of 55 mph, eventually including approximately 5,400 miles of non-freeway roadways. MDOT also installed shoulder rumble strips (SRS) on roadways with paved shoulders of at least 6 feet in width. This systemic initiative is to date the largest of its kind in the United States and provided a unique study opportunity.

• Technical Guidance to Support Local Computation of VMT-based Safety Performance Targets
  FHWA Office of Planning, Environment, and Realty (HEP) - 04/14/2016
  23 U.S.C 150, requires States to establish safety performance targets, and 23 U.S.C 134 requires Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) to also establish safety targets within 180 days of the State's target. The Safety Performance Measures (PM) regulation under 23 CFR 490.209 allows MPOs, in setting targets, to either agree to plan and program safety projects so that they contribute toward the accomplishment of the State DOT targets, or to commit to quantifiable targets for the entire Metropolitan Planning Area.

Mobile IT devices such as laptop computers, mini-laptop computers, handheld multifunctional data collectors, tablets, and smartphones also play a role in bringing the transportation industry into digital platforms.

  TRB will conduct a webinar on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 from 2:00PM to 3:30PM ET that will feature research synthesized by National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis 471: Practices for Developing Transparent Best Value Selection Procedures. The webinar will discuss the best value bid approach to procuring highway construction services. This method evaluates bids based on schedule, technical merit, management solutions, and past performance in addition to price. Presenters will discuss how this approach may enhance objectivity, fairness, and transparency of the bid selection process.

• TRB Webinar: Using Pavement Management System Data to Meet Agency Needs

  TRB will conduct a webinar on Monday, May 16, 2016, from 1:00 to 2:30PM ET that will provide pavement management system (PMS) users with examples of how agencies are using their PMS data. The goal of this webinar is to encourage agencies to use their systems to address current and upcoming needs. These needs include measuring performance of a particular pavement type or system, using PMS data for performance management, and developing new and useful measures. Each of the applications will include a discussion of issues encountered by the presenter and how those issues were resolved.

TPM Implementation Survey

• National TPM Implementation Review Survey Design and Draft Questions

  The primary goal of the National Transportation Performance Management (TPM) Implementation Review is to gather information about the application of performance management, performance based-planning and programming principles, and other MAP-21 performance provisions at State Departments of Transportation (State DOTs) and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs). The National TPM Implementation Review will seek to provide quantitative and coded qualitative data from open ended questions that can be summarized to spur further discussion of the resource and guidance needs of transportation agencies. It is believed that State DOTs and MPOs have a general understanding of TPM practices and have begun implementation, but it will be beneficial to have a better understanding of specific capabilities, progress, challenges and needs.Comment on the Draft National Transportation Performance Management (TPM) Implementation Review Survey
