MUSIC AND THEATER

There are music acts all over town. Many local bands play at night in bars and clubs on 6th Street and in the Warehouse District.South by Southwest Music Festival. SXSW Music and Film Festival is held every March at the Austin Convention Center.

Austin City Limits
Weekly PBS music television show broadcast from Austin. Previous guests have ranged from country superstar Garth Brooks to rock-and-roll legend Robert Plant to blues icon B.B. King to Austin's own Willie Nelson. Find out how to be in the audience by calling (512) 475-9077.

Free Music at Central Market
Occur every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings and will either be located at 41st and Lamar or S. Lamar and Ben White.

Austin Symphony
Concerts held at UT's Bass Concert Hall. During the summer, free concerts are held Sunday evenings at on 9th and Guadalupe. This website offers a season calendar of concerts.

Austin Lyric Opera
Austin's first professional opera company. Visit this website to view their show schedules.

Zachary Scott Theater
Center for the performing arts presents plays, musicals, and films.

State and Paramount Theaters
As a part of the Austin Theatre Alliance, the renovated historical State and Paramount Theaters, located on Congress Ave, presents theater, dance, film, and concerts. It also provides a classic movies series every summer.

The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema
Sip on a cold brew, munch on some snacks, and enjoy a movie at these three Austin locations. The original Alamo Drafthouse located downtown plays older movies and independent (sometimes off-the-wall) films. The two North Austin locations show more recent movies. The menu and beverage selections are also available for online viewing.
