Virginia Division approves DEIS for Harrisonburg Southeast Connector
The Virginia Division approved the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Harrisonburg Southeast Connector project. The DEIS evaluates five alternatives, including some on new location, to improve travel between I-81 and U.S. Route 33 southeast of the City of Harrisonburg. The project is independent from the ongoing I-81 corridor Tier 1 EIS. The project, with a range of cost for the alternatives between $35 million and $97 million, is in the vicinity of several sensitive environmental resources and there has been substantial interest from citizens and advocacy groups.
