Innovation Slide-In Bridge Construction (SIBC) method
Award Fiscal Year 2014
Project Aspect Construction
Description Originally built in the 1970's, the US-131 northbound and southbound bridges over 3 Mile Road will be widened with superstructure replacements utilizing 33" spread box beams and Slide-In-Bridge-Construction (SIBC). The US-131 corridor is a major north/south route connecting southwest Michigan to destinations in the northern parts of the State. This route experiences large weekend volumes, exceeding 40% of the average weekday volumes. The use of SIBC was chosen to significantly reduce these delays for the travelling public. This project is also using a CM/GC procurement method.
