The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) invites public officials, potential project sponsors, members of the financial community, and other interested parties to attend a public meeting to share comments with DOT concerning how best to administer the new Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) credit program that was authorized in the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21, Public Law 105-178).
TIFIA (Title I, Subtitle E, Chapter 1 of TEA-21) was established to provide up to $10.6 billion of Federal assistance in the form of credit (direct loans, loan guarantees, and standby lines of credit) to major surface transportation projects of critical national importance, such as intermodal facilities, border crossing infrastructure, trade corridors, and other investments generating substantial regional and national economic and other benefits.
Prior to implementation, DOT is holding this focus group outreach session on work-to-date in the development of a preliminary programmatic structure for TIFIA. In addition to discussing proposed features of the TIFIA program, DOT will make available a summary of the previous TIFIA focus group session held in New York City on September 14, 1998.
