The interchange, known as the "Big I" interchange, connecting I-25 and I-40 through the heart of Albuquerque, NM, was reconstructed to carry a project volume of 400,000 vehicles per day, 10 times more than was originally constructed for in 1966. Using new fast-track schedule innovation, the design was complete in 16 months, and the construction was complete in 23 months. The entire process otherwise would have taken 12 to 18 years to complete.
