Selected Bibliography of Hydraulic and Hydrologic Subjects

This bibliography is compiled to assist highway engineers looking for publications on hydraulics, hydrologic, roadway drainage, and sediment transport. This applies to riverine and coastal environments.

The technical resources (books, reference manuals, research papers, etc.) listed were selected because they contained material of interest to highway engineers and were familiar to the office preparing this bibliography. Many technical resources not listed may be of equal value to the highway engineer. The U.S. Government does not endorse products or manufacturers. Trademarks or manufacturers’ names appear in this report only because they are considered essential to the objective of the document. They are included for informational purposes only and are not intended to reflect a preference, approval, or endorsement of any one product or entity.

To suggest a resource for inclusion, please email us.

The National Transportation Library’s Repository and Open Science Access Portal, or ROSA P, also may be helpful in locating publications of interest.

Many of the older documents listed may not have electronic copies easily available. For some, a link was provided. For documents with no known Internet link, multiple methods may be helpful. One such method is WorldCat, an online network of library content and services. WorldCat can be reached at https://www.worldcat.org/ or by using the link located on the FHWA Libraries homepage.
