Impact of ATSPM on the Design of Signalized Intersections

Description

This webinar will discuss topics in traffic signal design and operations that agencies should consider when approaching an ATSPM deployment. Decisions made during the traffic signal design process, such as the use and placement of advance detection, can determine the ultimate capabilities of your ATSPM system. By making design decisions that are in alignment with your agency’s goals and objectives, ATSPM strategies can become another tool to help improve your agency’s traffic operations and signal maintenance.

Presenters
  • Sajad Shiravi, Miovision (sshiravi@miovision.com) has been with Miovision for the past two years where he works with the product and customer success team. He works on developing and evaluating methods and metrics to improve multi modal signal performance measures and also helps customers understand and take full advantage of ATSPM data in their day to day operations. He has a BS in Civil engineering and received his MS in transportation engineering from the University of New Brunswick.
  • Farhad Pooran (fpooran@econolite.com) joined Econolite in April 2017. In his new role as the VP of Systems Product Management, he is responsible for systems products including ATMS, adaptive control and ATSPM. He has over 28 years of experience in advanced traffic management systems development and deployment. Farhad began his career with Farradyne Systems in 1990 as a senior systems engineer and remained with the company through several acquisitions including Parsons Brinkerhoff, Schneider Electric and Kapsch TrafficCom. He worked as the VP of engineering and solutions architect and managed numerous ITS projects and deployment of traffic adaptive control systems. Farhad received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Catholic University of America.
  • Shaun Quayle (Shaun_Quayle@co.washington.or.us) is a transportation engineer with Washington County’s Engineering and Construction Services group. He is leading the Countywide Bluetooth and Traffic Signal Hi-Resolution Performance Measures program to proactively manage their ITS system of over 50 CCTV cameras, 350 traffic signals, 125 Bluetooth readers, and 2 adaptive signal systems. Shaun is active with the Transportation Research Board signal systems committee, and a working group within the Cooperative Automated Transportation (CAT) Coalition. Shaun received his BS in Civil Engineering from Oregon State and his MS in Transportation Engineering from the University of Tennessee.
Moderator
  • Eddie Curtis, FHWA (Eddie.Curtis@dot.gov) has been with FHWA for 12 years. He manages the Office of Operations' Arterial Management program. He has over 20 years of experience in traffic signal management and operations. Prior to joining FHWA, he was an associate engineer with the City of Los Angeles in the Automated Traffic Surveillance and Control (ATSAC) center and worked as a private sector consultant, providing technical support for various transportation agencies. Eddie received a BS in Civil Engineering from California State University, Los Angeles and an MS in Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech.
