What is the background concerning this transmittal?
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Office of Infrastructure (HIF), Office of Bridge Technology (HIBT), has requested the removal of outdated guidance in the FAPG. The outdated guidance pertains to policy for preliminary plan submissions and approvals for bridges, tunnels, geotechnical features, and hydraulic structures.
On August 9, 2007, HIBT notified the Office of Administration, Office of Information and Management Services, Management Programs and Analysis Division (HAIM-10), that a memorandum pertaining to Project Oversight - Unusual Bridges and Structures, dated November 13, 1998, from the Director, Office of Engineering, specifically stated that the memorandum superseded FAPG G 6012.1, Chapter 6, Preliminary Plan Review and Approval, dated December 9, 1991. The memorandum was originally sent to Resource Center Directors and Division Administrators only and was posted on the HIBT Web site. Issued as a memorandum, it did not go through HAIM-10's directives review process and was not posted in the FHWA directives system.
What are the specific changes to the FAPG? The following non-regulatory non-CFR-related guidance is deleted from the FAPG: G 6012.1, Chapter 6, Preliminary Plan Review and Approval.
