EXPLANATION OF CHANGES. With the passage of the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), the FHWA’s Office of the Associate Administrator for Safety has initiated a new method for focusing on highway safety problems and solutions. The purpose of this change is to internally restructure the Office of Safety to better implement several new safety-focused programs and increased funding levels contained in SAFETEA-LU, as well as to address increased efforts to engage external partners and stakeholders in program planning and delivery.
