  1. What is the purpose of this change? This change establishes the new order of succession to the functions and duties of the Federal Highway Administrator.

  2. Which part of FHWA Order M 1100.1A is being updated? This Order makes changes to Part I (Delegations of Authority), Chapter 2 (Order of Succession).

  3. What changes are included in this Order?

    1. Paragraph 2b establishes the new order of succession in the event of the absence or disability of both the Administrator and the Deputy Administrator, or when vacancies may occur in both positions, to be: (1) Executive Director; (2) Chief Counsel; (3) Associate Administrator for Policy and Governmental Affairs; (4) Associate Administrator for Operations; (5) Associate Administrator for Infrastructure; (6) Associate Administrator for Planning, Environment, and Realty; (7) Associate Administrator for Federal Lands Highway; (8) Associate Administrator for Safety; (9) Associate Administrator for Research, Development, and Technology; (10) Associate Administrator for Administration; (11) Director of Field Services - West; (12) Director of Field Services - South; and (13) Director of Field Services - North.

    2. Current organizational and position titles have been added throughout the chapter, to include recognition of the Chief Financial Officer position that was established after the last update. Minor editorial changes have also been included in the chapter, as needed.
