Figure 2: Travel on U.S. highways by month. This image is a line graph which compares monthly travel on rural highways and urban highways. Travel on urban highways fluctuated between 4.19 billion miles (January 2001) and 4.85 billion miles (June 2002). Travel on rural highways fluctuated between a low of 2.57 billion miles (January 2001) and a high of 3.43 billion miles (July 2002), for the period covering December 2000 and through May 2003.
