Publication Details

Fast-Track Paving: Concrete Temperature Control and Traffic Opening Criteria for Bonded Concrete Overlays, Volume I: Final Report Research/Reference: useful for researchers doing further work in the pavement area as well as those developing improved testing and design procedures. Includes documents of historical value.

Primary Topic: Rigid Pavement

Description: Report discusses early age behavior of concrete materials and its implications on future pavement performance. The study has been documented in three volumes. Volume I provides guidelines for the proper selection of material and construction variables so as to minimize early age distresses in the pavement. Report introduces key models to predict early age behavior and a software package for predicting early age characteristics of PCC pavements and bonded concrete overlay based on the effects of several mix and climatic variables. Volume II: HIPERPAV User's Manual is FHWA-RD-98-168; Volume III: Addendum to the HIPERPAV User's Manual is FHWA-RD-99-200.
