This chart compares growth trends for communities in Butte County, unincorporated areas of the county, and the county as a whole, for the period from January of 1995 through January of 2005. The total number of residents for the county as a whole began at slightly less than 200,000 in January of 1995 and rose steadily through the period to approximately 210,000 in January of 2005. The population of the unincorporated areas began at slightly less than 100,000 residents in January of 1995 and peaked in January of 1999 at slightly more than 100,000 residents. It declined from January of 1999 to January of 2001, to about the starting level of slightly less than 100,000 residents, and remained relatively steady through the period. The population of Chico began at 50,000 in January of 1995 and rose relatively steadily throughout the period to approximately 75,000 in January of 2005. The population of Paradise remained consistent throughout the period at approximately 25,000. The populations of Oroville, Gridley, and Biggs also remained relatively consistent through the period at approximately 13,000; 5,000; and 1,500 each.
