2000 Grant Recipient Information

Teenagers, Transportation Planners and Residents Team Together to Tackle the Treasure Coast Transportation Plan
St. Lucie County, Florida

The goal of this proposal is to create a New Age Team of Transportation Planners by educating the public through teenage produced transportation news shows and web pages. Students and transportation planners will work together to develop an interactive web page for St. Lucie County citizens that depict existing and proposed transportation systems. The web pages will be designed to solicit the public's input to identify their needs and suggestions to create a functioning, sustainable system. Residents and businesses will be encouraged to respond to a need and assessment survey available on the New Age Transportation Web Page or from 30,000 school children completing a homework assignment. Working with the students; representative from the physically challenged community, minorities, and work force programs, the MPO will have an opportunity to fully understand the needs and goals of the community. By pulling together all of the user groups to design the future transportation plan, the public will work together to find innovative solutions to make their goal of a sustainable transportation system a reality. If other citizens want to learn how to get their communities active in planning and implementing their future transportation plan they can order copies of the grant produced booklets and videos documenting the following processes:
