FHWA Statement on I-5 Bridge in Washington

Safety is our top priority at the U.S. Department of Transportation. Secretary LaHood reached out this morning to Governor Inslee, Senators Cantwell and Murray, and Representatives Larsen and DelBene to offer his support and reiterate USDOT's commitment to do everything possible to assist Washington state in recovering from the collapse of the I-5/Skagit River Bridge and to expedite repairs. FHWA staff is on site in Washington state working closely with the National Transportation Safety Board and the Washington DOT to determine the cause of the collapse.
